Smart System Integration

For the coming years the most essential challenge in the area of smart sensor architectures will be the reduction of power consumption. Areas commonly investigated are low-power circuit design or power management strategies based on supply voltage and operating frequency control for individual functional blocks. Nevertheless, increasing energy efficiency concerns all aspects of an integrated sensor system from the transducer operation principle, the controller structure and design methodology to signal processing and communication algorithms. To properly address these aspects simultaneously, a holistic approach is required. The institute focuses on structural improvements of the complete system beyond pure circuit design know-how.

Acutal key research areas are:

• event-based and self-clocked design,
• advanced signal processing algorithms, and
• system simulation.
